Quest set to start electric vehicles assembling

QUEST Motor Manufacturing (QMM) is set to begin assembling electric and new-energy vehicles in Mutare as the company accelerates its factory modernisation programme.
This was revealed during a tour of the plant by Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza. QMM general manager, Mr Carl Fernandes said the company had already invested US$1.2 million in factory upgrades, with additional specialised equipment expected by August.

“Our goal is clear, it is to pioneer the assembly of New-Energy Vehicles right here in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Fernandes.
He said the company would start assembling the BAW Mini Car, Skyworth SUV and GAC Aion V by August, while also rolling out a nationwide fast-charging network.
Mr Fernandes added that the expansion could increase employment by between 300 and 500 percent.
Minister Mugadza welcomed the development, saying the revival of QMM would boost industrialisation and job creation in Manicaland.
“This workplace has changed totally and we are looking forward to great things coming,” he said.
He said Government departments and institutions in the province would be encouraged to prioritise buying locally assembled vehicles.-herald
