The National Railways of Zimbabwe Contributory Pension Fund has invited civil engineering firms to design and oversee infrastructure works for two Bulawayo housing and mixed-use projects expected to deliver more than 5,300 stands. The Upper Nondwene and Umvutcha B developments will require roads, bridges, drainage, water and sewer networks, electrical infrastructure and other bulk services.
The National Railways of Zimbabwe Contributory Pension Fund has invited civil engineering firms to design and oversee infrastructure works for two Bulawayo housing and mixed-use projects expected to deliver more than 5,300 stands.
The Upper Nondwene and Umvutcha B developments will require roads, bridges, drainage, water and sewer networks, electrical infrastructure and other bulk services before construction can begin.
Upper Nondwene, a 542-hectare development along Airport Road, about 15 kilometres from the central business district, is planned for about 2,350 residential and mixed-use stands and has an approved Special Economic Zone.
Umvutcha B covers about 316 hectares near Victoria Falls Road and is planned for about 2,958 stands under an approved land-use plan.
The pension fund said both projects were progressing through statutory planning and subdivision processes and now required detailed engineering designs and project management.
The successful consultants will conduct topographical and geotechnical surveys, design road networks, access bridges, stormwater drainage, water and sewer systems, bulk services and electrical infrastructure.
They will also prepare engineering cost estimates, bills of quantities and tender documents, coordinate contractor procurement, administer contracts and supervise construction.
The fund said firms must demonstrate experience in comparable township and bulk infrastructure projects and have the capacity to manage contractors through construction.
Applicants must submit company profiles, relevant project experience, proposed teams and qualifications, methodologies, programmes and fee structures.
They must also provide company registration documents, valid tax and VAT certificates where applicable, NSSA compliance, proof of registration and good standing with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe and relevant professional bodies.
Firms must have in-house electrical engineering capacity or identify a suitable partner or subcontracted consultant for the electrical works.
Mandatory site visits will be held Sept. 14, starting at 9 a.m. for Upper Nondwene and 1 p.m. for Umvutcha B.
The submission deadline is Sept. 21.
The fund said proposals would be assessed on compliance, relevant experience, methodology, team qualifications, fees and capacity to supervise contractors.
The tender is an expression of interest and does not constitute a binding offer, the fund said.
