Beverage giant Delta Corporation Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to Zimbabwe’s human capital development by continuing its long-standing bursary programme, which targets high-potential learners from underprivileged backgrounds.
The initiative, which supports students from Advanced Level through to university, has invested over US$2.1 million over the past two decades, benefiting more than 1 300 students to date.
Speaking at a recent induction ceremony for 100 students receiving funding for the 2026 academic year, Delta’s general manager for corporate affairs and company spokesperson, Patricia Murambinda, stated that the company remains dedicated to supporting education and skills development.
The selection process is conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to ensure that support reaches truly deserving learners in disadvantaged communities across all provinces. Murambinda noted that this programme is a key pillar of Delta’s broader social investment strategy, which also includes constructing classroom blocks in underprivileged areas.
For many families, the bursary is a critical lifeline. Nora Mkandla, a grandmother from Bulawayo, shared how the programme has relieved her family’s financial strain. Her granddaughter, Nadra Ncube, is currently pursuing Advanced Level studies with the goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.
“The programme has helped us because my granddaughter was struggling to get funds to continue with her education,” Mkandla said, expressing gratitude for the scholarship.
Similarly, Bradley Chidamo, a student at Kwenda High School in Wedza, believes the opportunity will be life-changing.
“This opportunity will change my life because my family background is not good and things have been difficult,” Chidamo said.
He added that the support would provide the necessities needed to improve his future prospects and allow him to eventually give back to his community-newsdaay
