Chimanimani charts new economic path

CHIMANIMANI is positioning itself for a new era of investment, enterprise growth and tourism development following the successful inaugural Annual Chimanimani Business Symposium and Expo, a milestone event designed to unlock the district’s vast economic potential.

The landmark gathering brought together businesses, investors, Government officials, development partners and entrepreneurs to explore opportunities capable of transforming the district into one of Manicaland’s leading investment destinations.
More than 30 exhibitors participated in the Expo, showcasing products, services and innovations while forging strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating economic growth, job creation and business expansion.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, described the inaugural symposium and Expo as a major success, saying it marked a significant step towards rebuilding Chimanimani’s economy, attracting investment and creating sustainable livelihoods.
“Chimanimani has immense potential in agriculture, horticulture, tourism, mining, investment and enterprise development. Following the devastating impact of Cyclone Idai, our collective responsibility is to rebuild not only infrastructure, but also the economic opportunities and livelihoods of our people,” said Minister Mugadza.
He stressed that the district’s recovery should go beyond reconstructing roads, bridges and public facilities to include revitalising businesses, creating employment and improving household incomes.
Minister Mugadza said Chimanimani’s abundant natural resources, fertile agricultural land and entrepreneurial spirit provide a strong foundation for accelerated economic growth.
“Agriculture, horticulture, tourism and mining offer enormous opportunities for investment, enterprise development and value addition. We must harness these sectors to drive inclusive economic growth and improve the lives of our communities,” he said.
He added that the symposium and Expo created a vital platform for Government, investors, the private sector, development partners, farmers and entrepreneurs to engage in meaningful dialogue on unlocking the district’s economic opportunities.
The Minister highlighted the importance of strong partnerships in mobilising investment capital, strengthening local enterprises, expanding market access and ensuring communities benefit directly from the district’s natural wealth.
Organiser, Mr Tamuka Macheka, said the event created valuable opportunities for businesses from across Manicaland to establish commercial relationships, explore new markets and strengthen local supply chains.
“The Expo created opportunities for farmers, suppliers, processors, transporters and other businesses to establish commercial partnerships, improve market access and explore value addition opportunities,” he said.
Mr Macheka said participation enabled businesses to build networks beyond their immediate communities, exchange ideas and identify strategic partners capable of supporting long-term growth.
“For businesses across Manicaland, the Expo opened new avenues for collaboration, allowing enterprises to identify fresh markets, share ideas and establish relationships with potential investors and partners. The linkages between tourism, agriculture and hospitality also created opportunities to strengthen local supply chains through the provision of fresh produce and other locally sourced goods to hotels, lodges and restaurants,” he said.
The symposium and Expo were organised as part of efforts to reposition Chimanimani as a premier destination for investment, enterprise development and tourism in both Manicaland and Zimbabwe.
The initiative also signals a new chapter in the district’s economic recovery following the devastating effects of Cyclone Idai in March 2019.
Beyond showcasing established businesses, the platform was intentionally designed to facilitate investment discussions, promote business-to-business engagements, strengthen market linkages and connect entrepreneurs with financiers, development partners and industry leaders.
Agriculture and horticulture remain key pillars of Chimanimani’s economy, presenting lucrative opportunities in agro-processing, packaging, cold storage, logistics and value addition.
Stakeholders believe strengthening these value chains will enable local producers to move beyond supplying raw commodities and capture greater value from their produce.
At the same time, Chimanimani’s tourism sector offers significant investment prospects in accommodation, hospitality, recreation and destination experiences, leveraging the district’s breathtaking mountains, waterfalls, scenic landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
The Expo also sought to facilitate investment matchmaking, financing partnerships and supply-chain collaborations while empowering small and medium enterprises to embrace innovation, access new markets and expand their customer base.-herld
