TelOne moves to sweat assets

TelOne has introduced a new product, TelOne Connect, in a move expected to sweat the company’s assets and drive revenue generation.

With over 500 000 clients that have landlines, albeit only 20 percent active, TelOne believes the new product, which allows people, whether with or without a landline, to boost usage numbers.

Addressing the media in Harare at the launch yesterday, the company’s chief executive officer Engineer Lawrence Nkala said TelOne Connect was “a bold leap forward in how Zimbabwe should be communicating going forward”.

“Today we deliver a promise that will keep clients connected to what matters the most,” he said. “In today’s world, mobility, flexibility and digital access have become essential products of human communication.

“TelOne Connect today introduces a timely solution built for the modern Zimbabwean, powered by our trusted infrastructure and designed with simplicity, affordability, and security at its core.”Eng Nkala said with internet penetration now exceeding 30 percent and mobile voice traffic surpassing 4,2 billion minutes in the first quarter of 2025, Zimbabwe’s appetite for voice communication remained strong even in a data-driven era.

Fixed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) subscriptions are presently on the rise and voice continues to be a dependable revenue stream, especially as many users value clarity, reliability and cost-effectiveness.

Mr Nkala said their new product was a strategic response to that growing demand.

“This is more than a product introduction to the media, but a strategic move to strengthen our voice portfolio with a seamless cross-platform experience, increase recharge rates from 3 percent to 8 percent, expand active lines by making voice services more accessible across devices,” he said.

The TelOne Connect application can be downloaded on iOS and Google Play and the company is targeting 20 000 downloads and activations by the end of next month.

The product has been created for residential users and SMEs, especially given the widely held view that if a company does not have a landline, it is bogus.

This new product calls or receives calls anywhere in the world, just like WhatsApp and other products. Eng Nkala said TelOne Connect connects over any internet or mobile network, is secure and private and user-friendly.

“To our teams, partners and customers, I want to thank you. TelOne Connect is a product of your insights, your feedback, and your belief in our mission.

“Let us continue to connect Zimbabwe with the latest technology in line with the Government’s thrust of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

A unit of the country’s sovereign wealth fund, Mutapa Investment Fund, TelOne is the sole fixed telecommunications provider in Zimbabwe, offering voice, internet, and data services to individuals and businesses across the country.

As a state-owned corporation, it operates the largest fixed-line network in Zimbabwe and is also a major internet access provider, providing services to other operators and directly to consumers and organisations-herald
