FMHS Clinic to enhance access to quality healthcare

Mutare district medical officer David Muchiriwese officially opens the FMHS Mutare Clinic while First Mutual Health Services general manager Wellington Madya looks on
THE newly-opened First Mutual Health Services (FMHS) Mutare Clinic is set to transform healthcare access in the community, offering a comprehensive range of primary healthcare services.

The clinic officially opened its doors last Friday, becoming the fifth facility established outside Harare by FMHS, in a move aimed at expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare across the nation.

The FMHS Mutare Clinic is expected to provide essential services including vaccination, health screening and treatment for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.

In addition, the clinic features dental and optometry services, along with a fully stocked pharmacy to ensure residents have convenient access to prescribed medication.

Speaking during the clinic’s opening ceremony, Mutare district medical officer David Muchiriwese applauded FMHS for the commendable achievement amid a challenging economic environment.

He highlighted the timeliness of the clinic’s opening, stating that it aligns with government’s Vision 2030, which aims to establish an upper-middle-income economy.

“The opening of the Mutare Clinic is crucial as it ensures that communities have access to essential health services. It will play a significant role in enhancing quality healthcare service delivery in the Mutare community,” he said.

First Mutual Holdings group chief executive Douglas Hoto echoed the sentiments.

“Our clinics provide primary healthcare; it is our ethos to deliver quality health to everyone at affordable cost. We are leaving no place and no one behind,” he said, highlighting FMHS’s partnership with the government in fostering a healthier nation.

FMHS health services general manager Wellington Madya said the opening of the Mutare Clinic reflected community’s needs.

“We are committed to making healthcare more proactive, integrated and personalised. Through facilities such as this one, we aim to strengthen our ability to provide convenient, quality healthcare solutions,” he said.

The clinic aims to manage common illnesses and minor injuries, such as colds, flu and urinary tract infections. It consists of well-equipped observation rooms, consultation rooms for doctors and treatment facilities designed to ensure efficient care.

Madya added that plans were in place for additional healthcare facilities, including a container clinic set to open soon in Beitbridge.

He expressed hope that the Mutare Clinic will grow from offering essential primary care to become a fully integrated healthcare centre.

With the experienced medical team prepared to stabilise critical patients before referral to specialised facilities, the FMHS Mutare Clinic stands as a comprehensive one-stop healthcare centre, enhancing healthcare access and quality for the Mutare community.

The initiative underscores FMHS’s commitment to complementing government efforts and addressing healthcare challenges faced by the nation.-newsda
