Chimba-led ZTA board to drive tourism growth

THE newly appointed 10-member Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Board has been tasked with providing strategic guidance and robust oversight to the parastatal, while strengthening promotion strategies for Destination Zimbabwe and enhancing service delivery across the tourism sector.

The board, chaired by seasoned hotelier Mr Farai Chimba, was unveiled on Tuesday by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi.

Mr Chimba will be deputised by Vice Chairperson Ms Lizzie Makwezwa.

In announcing the appointments, Minister Rwodzi said the diverse skills and experience of the new board would significantly enhance ZTA’s capacity to achieve its mandate of promoting and regulating the tourism industry.

“The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Board Members for the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, a parastatal responsible for promoting and regulating Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, with effect from December 31, 2025,” she said.

“These board members bring immense experience and expertise that will be invaluable in providing strategic guidance and robust oversight to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, as it strengthens its promotion strategies for Destination Zimbabwe and enhances service delivery across the sector through effective regulatory frameworks and practices.”

Other board members are Mr Charles Munganasa, Ms Charity Magutorima, Mr Jeffreys Manjengwa, Ms Gamuchirai Mangundu, Ms Millicent Sibongile Mombeshora, Mr Godfrey Pasipanodya, Mr Tarirai Musonza and Mr Napoleon Nyanhi.

Minister Rwodzi said Government was confident that the new board would play a pivotal role in growing the tourism and hospitality industry and boosting its contribution to national development.

“We are confident that the diverse talents and expertise of the new board will significantly enhance our capacity to achieve our goals and deliver effective and reliable tourism and hospitality services to both the people of Zimbabwe and the international market,” she said.

She added that a vibrant tourism sector would contribute meaningfully to the growth of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and help improve Zimbabwe’s image in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“This will support His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s vision of attaining an upper middle-income economy and society by 2030,” Minister Rwodzi said.

The minister also commended the work being done by ZTA management and staff, as well as officials in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

“We extend our sincere gratitude for the great work and dedication that the teams at the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry continue to put into strengthening the sector,” she said.

Minister Rwodzi said the appointments were made in line with existing laws and principles of good corporate governance.

“The appointments were conducted in accordance with Section 194 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, read together with Section 11 of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31] and Section 4(1) of the Tourism Act [Chapter 14:20], following transparent and consultative processes,” she said.-herald
