AIRLINK is set to further consolidate its position in the domestic aviation market buoyed by the soaring travel demand, strengthened even more by Zimbabwe’s recent ranking as the world’s best tourism destination.
Zimbabwe was recently named the 2025 world best country to visit by Forbes magazine, a renowned global publication.
The recognition came at a time when the country continues to increase its appeal as a premium international tourist destination.
In 2024, Zimbabwe recorded over 1,6 million international tourist arrivals, generating US$1,2 billion in receipts and US$190,5 million in investments.
The country boasts majestic tourist attractions including five UNESCO World Heritage Sites— the Victoria Falls, Great Zimbabwe monument, Khami Ruins National Monument, Matobo Hills and Mana Pools National Park.
The Africa Golf Club Business Wednesday, which is organised by Chicken Hut, a Portuguese restaurant is an event where Airlink has partnered to deepen its business networks across the continent.
In an interview on the sidelines of the 10th edition of the Africa Golf Club Business Wednesday in Harare recently, the airline’s senior manager digital, e-commerce and loyalty Mr Byron Lottering said the country’s global tourism accolade was already adding impetus to higher traffic volumes on Airlink’s Zimbabwe routes.
“Zimbabwe’s global tourism accolade has already translated into higher traffic volumes on Airlink’s Zimbabwe routes not only by local travel- but by a surge in inbound tourists from Europe, the United States and other long-haul markets.
“It’s an ever-growing market, probably our best regional market.
“We’ve seen increased demand following the country’s recent recognition as a top destination,” he said.
In a separate interview, the Airlink sales manager for Africa Ms Lorraine Omar said the airline holds the vast majority of scheduled frequencies on Zimbabwean routes with between six and seven flights per day.
“Zimbabwe is an important region for Airlink as you can see with the schedule that we offer this region-we we have 6 to7 flights a day that’s coming to Harare and we are servicing this region very well and the demand is fairly extensive.
“We have a good relationship with our operators and the direct consumers as you can see being here at the Golf Day most of these clients here some use travel agencies,” she said.-herald
