ZIMTILE RE-CERTIFIED WITH ISO 9001:2015

Concrete roof tiles manufacturer, ZIMTILE, has been re-certified with ISO 9001:2015, confirming that the company’s processes and procedures conform to the strict requirements of the ISO standards.

ISO 9001:2015 Certification is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS) ISO 9001 Services in Zimbabwe.

Executive Director Zimtile and Assistant to the PG Industries Zimbabwe CEO, Mr Innocent Taru said the recertification would instil trust on the company’s products among its customers. The Zimtile ISO journey started in 2006.

“ISO being a quality management system that does not only stress the meeting of standards in processes, but maintenance of those set standards, the recent recertification of our operations means the company has been and is adhering to systems, procedures and operations that produce quality products. Recertification followed passing some tests. With the recertification, the market can trust our operations and our products,” Mr Taru said.

Zimtile has been operating in Zimbabwe since 1957 under Marley Roofing (South Africa).
Zimtile was incorporated in 1992 after the South Africa Company disinvested and the company was acquired by PGIZ in 2003 making it a wholly owned subsidiary of PG Industries Zimbabwe.

At full capacity, with maximum employment of resources, the company can produce 100 000 tiles in 24 hours at its two production centres. However, at different times the company has different objectives and conditions that might cause it to produce different volumes.

At the last survey, Zimtile market share was sitting at 60 percent.
“Though we have grown and improved in many aspects, the industry has experienced new entrants over the recent years, competition has strengthened, alternative products have been introduced as well. All these dynamics have left us at a confident share of 50 to 55 percent. Zimtile has a footprint in the regional market. We are more active in
Zambia,” Mr Taru said.

Zimtile currently employs more than 300 people across the three production centres and thousands in downstream and upstream activities that support the Zimtile business.

Mr Taru added that the obtaining economic conditions have created different challenges and opportunities for the company .

“Since we made the decision to focus on the positives, we conditioned our internal environment to create opportunities and be ready to grab other opportunities that present themselves. The economy is projected to grow and with the infrastructural and utilities development that we are witnessing coming with that projection, the company’s outlook is robust in many aspects as there is a lot of construction activities at micro and macro levels in the country. We envisage to be a one stop shop for building and renovations material under the holding company brand, PG Centre,” Mr Taru added.

Mr Gordon Kent, Zimtile Operations Manager Bulawayo, buttressed that the quality management system specifies requirements that an organization must not only meet but adhere to in order to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

Besides concrete roof tiles, the company also manufactures concrete pavers and bricks and distributes its products through the holding company PG Industries Zimbabwe. PG Centre branches are found in most major towns and cities throughout the country.-The Chronicle
