Zimra ready to clear foreign exhibitors
THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra), has indicated its readiness to facilitate the smooth clearance of foreign exhibitors for this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade at entry points,to avoid delays.
Last week, ZITF officials said they are engaging Zimra on modalities, to allow easy clearance of foreign exhibitors to avoid delays, noting that some exhibitors would not be aware that they need to clear their products at the point of entry or before arrival.
In the past, some foreign exhibitors experienced delays at points of entry due to clearance challenges. The annual trade showcase roars into life next week on Tuesday and ends on Saturday.
Running under the theme, “Innovation: The Catalyst to Industrialisation and Trade,” the fair will be officially opened by Kenyan President, Dr William Ruto.
The ZITF is a key platform for trade and investment in Zimbabwe, offering opportunities for local and international businesses to connect and explore partnerships.
Zimra Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Francis Chimanda told Business Chronicle that foreign exhibitors are required to provide a full inventory of their goods before clearance.
He said the shift supervisor’s desk would be ready to assist exhibitors in the clearance process.
“Goods coming in temporarily for the exhibition will be cleared on a form called Application for Temporary Importation (Atip). This form requires a cash deposit to be lodged with Zimra, which is refundable when the goods are exported from Zimbabwe.
“Exhibitors may also make suitable guarantee arrangements with local guarantors such as Clearing Agents, Banks or Insurance Companies for the security of duty due, in case goods are consumed in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Chimanda.
“Motor vehicles- for foreign exhibitors will be cleared on Temporary Import Permits (TIP.s). Such vehicles should be re-exported at the end of the exhibition. Any goods to be consumed in Zimbabwe as give-aways or consumables, full duty is payable at the time of importation. The Shift Supervisors desk will be ready to assist exhibitors in the clearance process,” noted Mr Chimanda. — chronicle
