Zimplats records zero lost-time injuries (LTIs) in Q1
PLATINUM group and associated metals producer, Zimplats, recorded zero lost-time injuries (LTIs) during the quarter ended 31 March 2024, which the company attributed to commitment to workers’ safety.
A lost-time injury is one that results in time lost from work of a day’s shift or more and includes injuries that result in fatalities or permanent injuries.
The record from the quarter marked an improvement from the previous one ended 31 December 2023, where two lost-time injuries were recorded.
In a statement, Zimplats said implementation of recommendations from previous accident investigations resulted in the zero LTIs.
“Zimplats is committed to zero harm and has been working to ensure that its workers’ safety is the number one priority,” it said.
“The company previously recorded over 5 million fatality-free shifts and is regarded as a benchmark in safety, health and environment (SHE) practices.”
In 2021, Zimplats was certified to the comprehensive ISO 45001 International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management.
According to the parent company, Impala Platinum Holdings (Implants), Zimplats and its other subsidiaries were certified as part of efforts to ensure all its operations are certified by year-end.
