Zimbabwe agrees to further cooperation with Mozambique on energy issues
GOVERNMENT has resolved to strengthen cooperation with Mozambique in the energy sector to improve power generation as well as transportation of petroleum products.
Already Zimbabwe has a cordial relationship with Mozambique on energy issues and imports part of its electricity from the neighbouring country.
On Tuesday, the Cabinet considered and approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Mozambique on cooperation in the field of energy for the enhancement of energy supply.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is also the Cabinet Committee on Legislation chairperson explained how the partnership will benefit the country leading to its adoption.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere told a post Cabinet media briefing that Zimbabwe had engaged Mozambique on a cooperation plan in several areas in the energy sector hence the highest Government-making body endorsed the partnership plans.
“Zimbabwe and Mozambique will benefit in areas that include: trading in petroleum products; utilisation and development of petroleum infrastructure; investment and trade in natural gas; promotion of renewable energy; electricity supply, generation as well as refurbishment and transmission reinforcement. The upgraded engagement will enhance investment in the energy sector and further improve the exchange of expertise, training and technical support,” said Dr Muswere.-chronicle
