Zim National Day Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai: What to expect

The exposure Zimbabwe is going to receive by participating in the National Day slot during the ongoing Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, here in Japan, is expected to see the country’s tourism sector expand significantly, with more investment and trade deals being sealed, and Brand Zimbabwe being projected positively on the global stage, according to official documents.

The Osaka Expo 2025 organisers have designated National Days for each participating country to honour their involvement and foster international goodwill. For Zimbabwe, this is a significant opportunity to align with its Vision 2030 goals, showcasing its achievements and investment opportunities.

The theme for Zimbabwe’s National Day in July 2025, “Beyond the Limits”, resonates well with the Expo’s sub-theme, “Connecting Lives”.

President Mnangagwa will be the guest of honour and is expected to host the Japanese delegation.

According to Zimbabwe’s organising team, the day presents a significant opportunity for the country to showcase its rich cultural heritage, economic potential and innovation to a global audience.

“It (the day) serves as a platform to strengthen diplomatic ties, attract investment and promote trade and tourism. The day emphasises Zimbabwe’s progress and commitment to international collaboration and fostering a deeper understanding of its contributions to global development. This event enhances Zimbabwe’s global visibility, allowing the nation to engage with diverse countries and seize opportunities for growth and partnerships that benefit both the nation and its people.

“An increase in tourist arrivals of 15 percent per annum, an increase in trade deals of 10 percent annually, an increase in registered investment deals of 10 percent annually, an improved Brand Zimbabwe value, 20 new partnerships forged, and learning from Japan and participating countries on the latest best practice and technology in use in Industry,” are some of the major expectations according to the document prepared by Zimbabwe’s Commissioner General to Expo 2025 Osaka, Mr Allan Majuru’s team.

The Government of Zimbabwe, according to the document, seeks to use the Expo to promote the Brand Zimbabwe campaign by showcasing social and cultural diversity and boosting the country’s trade and investment opportunities, as well as tourist attractions, to visitors.

The country also seeks to benchmark Zimbabwe’s product offering and processes against international best practices and to gather intelligence on the latest innovations and how to apply them to the Zimbabwean context in order for the country to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to re-engage with the international community.

“Unique positioning as the only Southern African country: Zimbabwe will be the sole representative of Southern Africa during this week (July 15), allowing it to highlight its unique cultural heritage, economic potential and tourism offerings.

“This distinctiveness can attract global attention and set Zimbabwe apart from other participating nations. Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, art and cuisine, will be a key focus. Events such as live performances, art exhibitions and cultural displays will engage visitors and create a memorable experience,” reads the document in part.

The National Day, according to the Zimbabwean team, will serve as a platform to promote Zimbabwe’s economic potential, particularly in sectors such as mining, agriculture, tourism and renewable energy, and presentations, business forums and networking events will target potential investors and partners.

The event will highlight Zimbabwe’s progress towards achieving its Vision 2030 goals, emphasising sustainable development, innovation and economic growth.

National Day programmes at Expo 2025 Osaka are dedicated events where each participating country celebrates its heritage, achievements, and contributions. These programmes allow nations to present their culture, values, and innovations to a global audience, fostering cultural exchange and diplomacy.

They are important for enhancing national visibility, strengthening international relationships, and promoting tourism, trade and investment. National Day programmes offer an opportunity for countries to showcase their identity, attract international attention, and engage in meaningful dialogues, ultimately spotlighting their role in global development and cooperation.

The National Day will allow Zimbabwe to raise its flag high during the Osaka Expo, hence its curation is aimed at making Zimbabwe more visible at this international arena. Running under Zimbabwe’s Expo theme, ‘Beyond the Limits’, which emphasises the transcending of boundaries, the National Day will be decorated with celebrations that depict our national identity within the Expo setting, and it is a chance for visitors to experience a deeper understanding of Zimbabwe’s culture and heritage and will present the country with a unique opportunity to communicate its mantra, ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’.
