Zim-DRC business forum on the cards
National trade promotion and development organisation, ZimTrade, in partnership with Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) will host a business and investment conference later this month to promote trade and investment between Zimbabwe and The Democratic Republic of Congo.
The full programme will entail business-to-business meetings, company visits, and deliberations during the business and trade investment conference.
ZimTrade said the programme was meant to assist Zimbabwean companies to establish connections and strengthen trade relations with the DRC market.
The business forum will be held on the sidelines of the 2023 edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show with at least 20 DRC business delegations in the agri-business sector having already confirmed participation.
“To assist the Zimbabwe companies to tap into DRC, ZimTrade in partnership with Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) are organising the Zimbabwe-DRC Business Forum to be held on the sidelines of this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.
“At least twenty Congolese business delegations in the agri-business sector have confirmed their participation at the business forum,” said Zimtrade.
This comes following a successful outward trade mission to Lubumbashi and Kolwezi, DRC in May 2023, facilitated by Zimtrade in which a total of 15 companies participated.
Following the trade mission, a business delegation from DRC in turn, came to Zimbabwe for the SeedCo annual winter field day towards the end of May 2023 to further strengthen the trade relations between the two countries.
“The forum, to be held on August 29 2023 in the Andy Miller Hall, will consist of a trade and investment conference, scheduled business-to-business meetings and company visits,” said Zimtrade.
The trade and investment conference will be addressed by the DRC Provincial Governors for Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba, Jacques Kyabula Katwe, and Professor Jackson Kalenga Mwenzemi respectively and the President of Fédération des Entreprises du Congo (FEC), DRC’s private sector federation, Albert Yuma Mulimbi.
ZimTrade said targets for the forum were farmers interested in setting up operations in the DRC, who will be provided with an opportunity to understand the vast investment opportunities in the sector.
“Zimbabwean farmers and agribusinesses can expand their customer base and increase their export volumes, leading to improved profitability and economic growth. On the other hand, the DRC buyers and distributors can access stable imports from distant and reliable sources of agricultural products, reducing their dependence on countries,” said ZimTrade.
