Zim Cyber City generates global interest

International cricket stars, local pension funds, and Zimbabweans living in the diaspora have shown interest in buying properties in Zimbabwe’s new high-tech cyber city, the project promoters have said.

Construction of cyber city in Mount Hampden in western Harare is set to begin “in the next few days” with 50 villa units–out of the 233 proposed units–expected to be delivered within one and a half to two years.

The cyber city, being bankrolled by Mulk Holdings International, will make Zimbabwe the first African country with a smart city and is expected to usher in a new era of economic and social development.

Mulk International chairman, Mr Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk told The Herald Finance & Business on Tuesday during an event to mark the beginning of the official sales of the properties that civil works were already ongoing while the construction of the fabricated villa units was underway in Dubai.

He said the properties have generated interest among international cricket superstars, pension funds, and the diaspora.

“In the next few days, we will be starting the first phase, which is 50 units out of the 233 villa units, and that is going to be delivered within the next 18 to 24 months,” he said.

The construction of the whole project would be completed in the next four years., he added.

He said the cyber city would be a fully functional society with shopping malls, towers, and a water body.

“Land has been cleared, landscaping is done, and design and engineering have been completed. The local government (approvals) are an ongoing process with the bulk of the requirements (having been) met,” he said.

“It will be the only model in Africa; there will be no need to fly to Dubai shopping malls as the city will have most of the things people travel to Dubai for,” he said. Being a special economic zone, everything imported by the residents will be duty-free.

One of the key benefits of Zim Cyber City is its potential to boost tourism in the country. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and world-class amenities, the city will attract visitors from all over the world.

Zim Cyber City’s integration into the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) program highlights the Government’s commitment to promoting sustainable growth and attracting investments.

Zim Cyber City will facilitate special window clearance of blockchain and digital assets licenses and bank accounts, cutting-edge office spaces, and high-end residential living for all individuals and entities operating and living in the community.

It will include 24/7 advanced, built-in surveillance technology that is directly connected to local law enforcement authorities for maximum security for the residents.

In addition to its economic benefits, Zim Cyber City aims to enhance the beauty and attractiveness of Zimbabwe.
