Women embark on empowerment projects

WOMEN from Emganwini Ward 26 in Bulawayo have embarked on income generating projects that are meant to uplift the status of women into being economic contributors from grassroots level.

The women are making washing powder, dish washing liquid, bar soap, perfumes, floor polish, sanitisers, bags and other ornaments and supplying their local communities.

Cde Mnothisi Nsingo, Zanu-PF District Coordinating Committee chairman for Area Five said they were supporting women who were interested in starting entrepreneurship projects.

“We are assisting women from this area in incoming generation projects. These are projects that are being advocated for by the President (Mnangagwa) that people must have income generating projects from household level. This concept of households generating income is also prevalent in China where families make goods for sale from the comfort of their homes. We are doing the same here.

“It’s a women’s empowerment project and we are hoping to get funding for raw materials and machinery for the project. We want to go full scale and supply a number of people in the city and beyond. Market is not a challenge as these are everyday household detergents that are used for cleaning homes so definitely people will always buy,” said Cde Nsingo.-sundaynews
