RTG maintains stable occupancy, improves RevPAR in Q1 2025
HARARE – The trading update for Rainbow Tourism Group Limited for the first quarter of 2025 reflects a stable performance amid a challenging operating environment in Zimbabwe. The group’s overall occupancy rate remained steady at 48%, the same as in the previous year, on the back of consistent demand levels.
Revenue increased marginally by 2% to US$8.7 million, despite refurbishment-related disruptions at three key hotels—New Ambassador Hotel, A’Zambezi River Lodge, and Victoria Falls Rainbow Hotel.
The RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) improved notably from US$43 in Q12024 to US$48 in 2025. This 11.6% increase suggests that, despite occupancy remaining constant, the group was able to generate higher revenue per room, likely driven by increased conference and event volumes and possibly enhanced pricing strategies amid domestic demand growth.
These upgrades, including modernized guest rooms and amenities, are expected to attract more guests and improve revenue streams in the future.
The refurbishment activities, though temporarily disruptive, are an investment in elevating guest experience and positioning the hotels more competitively. The increased RevPAR underscores a positive trend in operational performance, reflecting heightened demand for meetings, events, and leisure activities in Zimbabwe’s urban centres.
Looking ahead, the group remains optimistic about 2025, leveraging a diversified hospitality portfolio and ongoing expansion initiatives. The resilience shown in RevPAR and revenue growth amidst refurbishment challenges indicates strong underlying demand, supporting the group’s strategic objectives to capitalize on domestic and regional tourism recovery.
