Natfoods wins big at Africa Food Awards 2023

In recognition of over a century-long commitment to food production, quality and innovation, National Foods Limited was a big winner at the Africa Food Awards 2023 taking the Food Company of the Year Award and also winning in three product categories.

The awards, organised by Food Business Africa Magazine, serve as a celebration of the continent’s most impactful contributors to the food industry.

National Foods Limited’s awards are testimony to over a century of diligently feeding and nourishing the nation, a milestone that embodies the company’s resilient journey in Zimbabwe’s agro-processing industry.

In the citation for the awards won, the judging panel commended the company for its significant influence on livelihoods and communities across Zimbabwe and for its recent strategic investments in expanding production capacity which include the US$6 million investment in a new flour mill in Bulawayo and launching innovative products through investments into breakfast cereals, baby food, pasta and biscuits among others which total US$21 million.

Evidence of the new innovations striking the right notes for the company was in the awards won in New Product of the Year Award category for three of its products: Pearlenta Nutri Active, a range of nutritious Breakfast Cereals; Pearlenta Smart Carbs Cereals, plus Baobab, a product made from Traditional Grains (Sorghum and Millet) and Baobab; Organica Plant-based Meal, an instant meal which is in tune with the rising trend of vegan and vegetarian diets.

“We are honoured to be recognised by the Africa Food Awards, a stalwart in celebrating excellence in our industry,” said Lesley Malunga, the Finance Executive for the Cereals, Culinary and Baby Foods Business Unit at National Foods Limited who attended the awards ceremony held in Kenya and received the awards on behalf of the company.

“Winning these accolades reflects our unwavering dedication to creating high-quality food products and our commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of our customers, consumers and communities,” he added.

The winners were announced at the Awards Ceremony & Gala dinner on June 16, 2023, at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, with National Foods Limited executives in attendance to receive the awards.

The event also provided a platform for industry professionals to network, celebrate achievements, and share insights on the future of the food industry in Africa.-herald
