Mining equipment supplier to create jobs for youths
ONE of the country’s leading mining equipment suppliers, Genstorm Global Mining Suppliers (GGMS), has committed to create job opportunities for the youth, as the company expands its operations in the Southern African region.
Bouyed by investor friendly policies put by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the Bulawayo based firm plans to be a key economic enabler that supports Government efforts in uplifting livelihoods.
Under the National Development Strategy (NDS-1) economic blueprint, the country has an ambitious outlook of creating millions of job opportunities to reach an upper middle-class economy by 2030. According to the NDS-1, mining equipment manufacturers and suppliers are described as pivotal enablers to propel the mining sector in contributing to sustainable livelihood development.
In an interview with Sunday News on the sidelines of a presentation of a mining logistics supply value chain last week, GGMS director Mr Amkela Nyoni said the company plans to fully invest in creating jobs so as to realise growth and feed into the economy.
The company already has an extensive portfolio base with well-established mining firms and small-scale players in the gold, platinum and chrome sector.
“The mining industry stands as a pillar of economic growth, as such, creating job opportunities for our young people is key. As we expand operations, skills development will be at the centre of our business,” he said.
Mr Nyoni said his company’s footprint in Southern Africa puts it in good standing to invest locally.
“We are on course to build warehouses in every mining area countrywide. Our confidence is hinged on our expanded operations to South Africa and other countries in the region. The investment will soon cascade to the local job market. Genstorm Global Mining Suppliers employs hundreds of people directly and indirectly. That number will increase as we bring in business into the country.
“The continued growth of the local industry has been an advantage to the mining supplies value chain. For us local investors, penetrating the Southern region means the local job market will also benefit from the expansion. More investment awaits for the mining industry and we are ready for it,” said Mr Nyoni.
The launch of Genstorm Global Mining Suppliers’ logistics chain, which comprises top range trucks, has positioned the company as a springboard for small scale miners to progress, said Mr Nyoni.
The company’s investment in haulage trucks and state of the art logistics equipment has so far benefitted artisanal and small-scale miners who have previously faced problems due to incapacitation.-sundaynews
