Millers secure 400 000mt of white maize
LOCAL grain millers have secured 400 000 tonnes of white maize from Malawi and Zambia to augment local stocks.
This comes after the Government lifted maize import ban to allow those with free funds to import and ensure regular supply for the milling industry and stock-feed manufactures.
In a statement, Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) chairman, Mr Tafadzwa Musarara, said the Cabinet decision to allow grain imports has enhanced national food security in light of the disruptive geo-political complications in Eastern Europe.
“I am pleased to inform the nation that GMAZ has secured 400 000 tonnes of white maize from Malawi and Zambia,” said Mr Musarara
He said preparations are underway to ensure that physical movement of the procured grain into Zimbabwe starts by no later than June 30.
GMAZ is a body representing the milling industry.
