Local Bus Manufacturers Gives Assurance They Can Meet Local Demand

Bus manufacturers situated in Harare’s Willowvale Industrial area have said they are fully equipped to meet local demand for busses and they can supply buses made locally to the government and other entities interested in purchasing buses, The Standard reports.

According to the publication Willowvale Vehicle Body Engineering (WVBE) which is one of the local bus manufacturers engineers have reportedly assembled and built buses and skip bins trucks for schools and councils, and they are now vying for government recognition. Speaking to the publication, the Company’s MD Slyvester Matambo, said:

We are ready to meet the local demand of buses and skip bins, among other trucks, as we have the capacity and expertise to do so. Our bus building initiatives is in line with the government’s economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy (NDS), and the Zimbabwe Motor Industry Development Policy (ZMIDP)

Our appeal to the government is to consider us to build buses for Zupco and other government agencies. We need support from the government with an order for just a few tens of buses to Zupco and schools, hence creating a lot of employment for the Zimbabwean youths and awakening the downstream motor industry.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube in the 2021 National Budget extended the importation of busses duty-free scheme.
