Invictus takes on board students, lecturers on attachment
AUSTRALIAN investor Invictus Energy Limited on Monday said it is going big on its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in the Muzarabani and Mbire districts as it has taken on board several students and lecturers drawn from the local universities on various attachment programmes to develop and transfer skills in the oil and gas industry.
The mining firm adds in its latest update released on Monday that it has successfully completed a number of projects focused on the provision of water to clinics, schools and community centres, which is an enabler to future CSR initiatives the company seeks to implement to improve lives and livelihoods in remote communities.

“In addition, the Company is expanding its CSR programme to include rehabilitating existing roads and assisting with community initiatives to address human-wildlife conflict. The Company has recently completed the rehabilitation and upgrade of the road from Muzarabani to Hoya, which has provided improved access to clinics and schools for the surrounding community,” managing director, Mr Scott Macmillan said.
He said the firm is satisfied with the performance of Polaris and the local field crew who completed 425km of seismic line preparation ahead of the data acquisition, which will ensure the campaign is completed seamlessly.
The competition of the drills that have generated over 100 direct jobs for the local communities as well as the procurement of goods and services from local suppliers will add to its world-class exploration portfolio and substantial prospective resource base, he noted.
“The CB23 Seismic Survey has generated over 100 direct jobs during the campaign for the local communities as well as the procurement of goods and services from local suppliers. The local community engagement is in keeping with the Company’s shared prosperity approach, ensuring all stakeholders, including the local community, benefit from finding, developing and producing natural resources,” he said.
The investor awarded Polaris Natural Resource Development Limited (Polaris) a contract to provide 2D seismic acquisition services for its Phase 2 oil and gas exploration campaign in the Cabora Bassa Basin as it continues to unlock the potential of the area.
Early this year, Invictus Energy, which is exploring for oil and gas in northern parts of the country confirmed the presence of light oil, gas-condensate and helium gas in commercial concentrations from its Mukuyu-1 mud gas compositional analysis.

The company noted that the results of analysed samples demonstrate a consistent, high-quality natural gas composition, adding that the presence of helium gas in commercial concentrations in multiple reservoir units is comparable with global helium producing fields, and provides an additional high-value by-product.
Last year, Invictus Energy indicated that the country could be sitting on more than 5,5 billion barrels of oil.
A barrel of oil equivalent (boe) is a term used to summarise the amount of energy that is equivalent to the amount of energy found in a barrel of crude oil.
It said the project is one of the largest oil and gas exploration prospects to be drilled globally this year and if successful, could be transformative for the company and Zimbabwe
