inDrive mobility facility moves to Bulawayo
Global mobility and urban services platform, inDrive, is expanding its peer-to-peer ride-hailing services to the City of Bulawayo as it continues to reshape the transportation landscape.
The extension to Bulawayo follows its commendable reception in Harare recently, where it is garnering popularity with its unique “Name Your Price” model.
This move and model underscores inDrive’s unwavering commitment to fairness and transparency in the ride-hailing sector.
The California headquartered inDrive’s entry into the Zimbabwean market, reaffirms the company’s dedication to enhancing mobility options for African residents.
Bulawayo now joins Harare in this venture, marking Zimbabwe as the eighth African country to experience the innovative platform and adding to the list of over 700 cities globally benefiting from inDrive’s services.
inDrive Africa business development representative, Vincent Lilane, expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s expansion into Bulawayo, stating: “We are beyond excited about our expansion into Bulawayo. Our platform is not just about transport; it’s about empowerment, transparency and reshaping the way we think about mobility. We look forward to offering Bulawayo’s residents a safer, fairer and more flexible transport solution,” he said.
inDrive’s unique pricing model, which places control in the hands of users, is expected to enhance its market share at a time Zimbabweans are also looking for value for money services.
Under this model, passengers propose a fare for their intended journey, and drivers can choose to accept, counteroffer, or decline the proposal, resulting in a mutually agreed-upon price.
This peer-to-peer approach has been a game-changer, challenging unfair pricing practices, and boasts over 175 million downloads, making it the second most downloaded mobility app globally.
Additionally, the system also places focus on safety for users. All users, whether passengers or drivers, must undergo a rigorous registration process. To enhance security, only individuals with verified documentation can utilise the platform, with personal data shared with authorities only upon official request.
The platform includes several safety features, such as passenger ratings, travel address alerts, a Safety Center, an emergency SOS button, and a “Share the Ride Route” option. Any reported safety incidents are promptly investigated, with potential mental health support resources available.
The inDrive app has been downloaded over 175 million times, and was the second most downloaded mobility app in 2022.
