Government moves to secure transport for Binga Poly

GOVERNMENT is in the process of capacitating the newly established Binga Polytechnic with transport as it is procuring a fleet of vehicles and buses, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Professor Amon Murwira has said.

The Second Republic is eager to see marginalised areas being developed in its quest to leave no one and no place behind, which has seen Binga in Matabeleland North benefitting from a chain of initiatives that are meant to improve the lives of the community.

The establishment of Binga Polytechnic will impact positively in improving access to quality, equitable and inclusive education to locals.

Binga which recently was granted a local board status is aggressively positioning itself for a massive economic take-off as it seeks to leverage on its vast untapped tourism resources by luring potential investors to partner with it in harnessing the resources in the district.

Educational facilities are being established with Binga Polytechnic being the most recent.

Prof Murwira told Business Chronicle yesterday that the Government is seriously developing the area not on the skills side alone but in all spheres of the economy in a bid to improve the livelihoods of the community.

He said through the introduction of Binga Polytechnic, the district is poised to develop in all spheres as the college has the potential to lure a mixture of investments, which include retailers.

“We are in the process of procuring transport for Binga Polytechnic as we seriously want to develop that area. We want that place to develop as you know that skills development is key for society. The Second Republic has put the development of marginalised areas in the forefront. This is in line with President Mnangagwa’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.

“The college will not only promote skills development in Binga and the surroundings, but it will also bring in some investments which include retail and others,“ said Prof Murwira.

The polytechnic was established at the request of the community when President Mnangagwa visited Binga in April last year.

Last month, 24 pioneering graduates from Binga district consisting of 12 males and 12 females graduated as part of the first 45 students enrolled at Binga Polytechnic College.

The Government under the Second Republic continues to accelerate the implementation of key infrastructure projects in the district, which for years lagged behind in terms of development.

In line with President Mnangagwa’s philosophy of ensuring that ‘no one and no place is left behind’ in terms of development, the Second Republic continues to roll out transformative projects in different parts of Matabeleland, a region that has over the years been regarded ‘marginalised’ and least developed.

Since coming to power in 2017, President Mnangagwa has been at the forefront in terms of driving economic growth and development in Matabeleland.

In early 2022, President Mnangagwa announced during a star rally at Siabuwa Business Centre in Binga that the Government under the Second Republic committed itself to developing Binga.

Binga town board administrator Mr Never Mwinde told Business Chronicle that the local board is excited by the desire of the Second Republic in developing Binga.

“As Binga Local Board and Binga community we appreciate and are humbled by such great and phenomenal help rendered to the Binga development agenda championed by the Second Republic through its [philosophy] of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said. — chronicle
