Entrepreneurship key to taming high unemployment

But for that to happen, one needs to learn from those who have arrived, he said while urging people to stop complaining about lack of funding from financial institutions.

He also advised people to attend business seminars where they can get proper guidance and coaching.

“It is 100% possible to start a business without capital,” said the 35-year old entrepreneur whose main aim is to inspire youths to avoid drugs and venture into business,” Chamba said.

“Crying and complaining day and night about the economy will never change anything unless one begins to take the necessary steps towards transforming his or her life by penetrating the marketplace.

“Considering the high unemployment rate in our country, I believe that business is the only way out. People must start their own businesses.”

According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, the country’s unemployment rate has risen to 21% from 19,7%.

Independent analysts, however, put the figure at over 80%.

Chamba said there were a lot of opportunities in Zimbabwe.

“A great number of white people simply migrated from the country, but the opportunities are still there especially in mining, agriculture, transport and communication, among other sectors,” he said.

In a bid to help empower young people with business skills, Chamba established the Venon Chamba Business Seminars in 2022, which seeks to educate, inform, motivate and create an aspiration in young entrepreneurs of wanting to achieve greatness in business.

“So, I will be hosting Shingi Munyeza under the banner Venon Chamba Business Seminars on the 18th of November 2023,” the Chitungwiza-bred motivational speaker said.

“Other guests to come this year also include the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya as well as Nigel Chanakira. Other prominent and successful entrepreneurs from South Africa will be joining us commencing the first quarter of next year.”

For next month’s event, Chamba is expecting more than 200 people, among them bankers, professionals, young entrepreneurs as well as those who are aspiring to make it on the marketplace.

“We are looking forward to creating a crusade of business seminars with various interdenominational business partners and we will spread the gospel of profit.”

He believes most young people end up taking drugs due to lack of inspiration and motivation.

“There has to be someone who becomes an idol to the young generation, teaching them the right path to take in life. There is a better life besides taking mutoriro, guka etc,” he said.

Over the past few years, Zimbabwe has been battling an unprecedented increase in drug abuse, especially by students in institutions of higher learning.-newsday
