DPA Installs Solar for Shoprite Stores

Distributed Power Africa (DPA) has begun a renewable energy drive that will see installation of solar PV at Shoprite stores across South Africa. Shoprite Checkers (Private) Ltd is the biggest retailer in Africa.

Shoprite, DPA said, preparations for solar installation on the first three stores were at an advanced stage and 1,450 MWh of energy per annum in total.

“DPA has begun preparations for solar PV at Shoprite stores in Lichtenburg (North West Province), Malelane (Mpumalanga Province) and Waverly (Gauteng province), as they continue to bid for more stores. The first three stores are expected to generate more than 1,450 MWh of energy per annum in total. There are 18 Shoprite Checkers retail stores already powered by solar on the Group’s “Green Building” initiative,” the statement read.

DPA will also be engaging more commercial businesses to help them adopt clean energy solutions with reduced costs and less pollution on our environment.

Added the statement: “DPA has been aggressive in engaging commercial and industrial businesses to adopt hybrid clean energy solutions for energy resilience, reduced costs and improved carbon footprints. Their customers include Liquid Intelligent Technologies data centres, Africa Data Centres, UNESCO, Tanganda Tea Company estates, Anglo American Mines, Econet Wireless telecom towers, Boxlee packaging manufacturers, Schweppes juicing plants, Ecobank branches across Africa and other large industrial and commercial users.”
