CSC Revival Efforts Gather Momentum

The government ‘s bid to revive Cold Storage Commission maybe fruitful if reports flying around are to be believed, The Government engaged Bousted Beef Zimbabwe to help in the revival of the sleeping giant CSC. The plans to revive CSC have gotten traction from an import of 2000 herds of cattle imported from South Africa Sunday Mail reports. Quoting the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Lands, Water and Climate, Mr Haritatos, Sunday mail wrote:

Last week on Friday I saw videos of 2 000 herd of cattle arriving at one of the ranches after being imported from South Africa. These are pure breed Brahman, very expensive cattle and they answer the issue of genetics. Let us give them a chance because due diligence was done

Bulawayo meat centre is expected to be opened in 4 months time as machinery worth $16 million has been bought and awaits delivery in Bulawayo. The publication also reports that Bousted Beef Zimbabwe will also re-open the firm’s derelict abattoirs, meat processing and canning factory as well as its tannery. CSC’s Bulawayo complex is the second largest meat slaughtering centre in the country only second to Botswana’s Meat Commission.

At its peak about 2 decades ago, CSC would slaughter 50000 beasts a month, export beef to as far as Europe and garner $45 Million revenue for the country. CSC went under due to mismanagement and constant outbreaks of foot and mouth disease.–news.pundula.co.zw
