Afreximbank launches Hub to connect African researchers with industry
The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) is set to become a key platform for fostering innovation and connecting African researchers with the industry, according to Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President for Intra-African Trade and Export Development at Afreximbank.
Speaking at the launch of the “African Research and Innovation Hub @IATF,” a new initiative by Afreximbank in collaboration with the African Union Commission and AfCFTA Secretariat, Awani emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry to drive intra-African trade and industrialisation.
“IATF2025 will serve as a groundbreaking platform for African, Caribbean and Diaspora lecturers, students, and researchers to demonstrate their capabilities, and connect with industry leaders, investors, and policymakers,” said Awani. “This is more than an opportunity to display research; it’s a unique moment to shape the future of intra-African trade and industrialization to drive economic growth across the continent.”
The Hub aims to provide a space for researchers to showcase their innovative research and prototypes, connect with potential investors and collaborators, and gain valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing intra-African trade.
“This initiative recognises the immense talent and creativity within the African continent,” Awani added. “By connecting researchers with industry, we can translate innovative ideas into tangible solutions that contribute to the economic growth and development of Africa.”
The IATF, organized by Afreximbank, brings together businesses, investors, and policymakers from across the globe to explore trade and investment opportunities in Africa. The 4th IATF will be held in Algiers, Algeria, from September 4-10, 2025.-ebsienssweekl
