Silvergill’s Sadomba wins excellence in engineering award
Founder of Silvergill Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd, a leading integrated logistics company in Zimbabwe, Engineer Clara Sadomba, has added another gong to her collection of accolades by recently winning an award at the 2024 Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Federation (Zimbabwe Chapter) of Women in Business (COMFWB) awards in the engineering sector.
The prestigious COMFWB Business Woman Excellence Awards were held in Harare last month.
COMFWB was established in July 1993 in Zimbabwe with the endorsement of the authority, which is made up of Heads of State and Government of the COMESA member states.
It acts as a forum for the exchange of ideas and experience among female entrepreneurs; an instrument through which the appropriate portion of COMESA Women in Development programmes are implemented.
It is a forum for networking among women and an instrument for encouraging them to set up or expand existing enterprises.
Silvergill specialises in the movement of bulk minerals and commodities via rail.
Eng Sadomba said her winning of the award testifies to the strides that Zimbabwe has made in promoting the advancement of women in the engineering sector.
“I hope this recognition provides inspiration to the girl child pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies, and young women who have embarked on careers aligned with them,” she said.
Having worked for ZIMASCO (Pvt) Ltd, one of Zimbabwe’s largest integrated ferrochrome producers and leading chromite ore exporter for over 23years, Eng Sadomba identified the strategic need in the Zimbabwean mining industry for multi-modal logistics solutions for break and loose bulk cargo.
This vision resulted in the establishment of Silvergill, which has been creating viable, homegrown logistics solutions for various mining players operating in Zimbabwe since early 2022.
Through its well-established networks and vast experience operating in the country’s mining sector, the firm has been able to tailor-make end-to-end logistics solutions for all bulk commodities.
A holder of a Master’s degree in Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering), Eng Sadomba has garnered vast experience in mineral processing, logistics, sales and global marketing of minerals over her long career.
She has spearheaded numerous breakthrough initiatives in the areas of bulk commodities export logistics and international trade.
Notable achievements under Eng Sadomba’s portfolio include: Rail User of the Year 2011 —Net tonnes per kilometre (National Railways of Zimbabwe); and Rail User of the Year 2012 —Net tonnes per kilometre (National Railways of Zimbabwe). Other accolades are; Top Exporter of the Year 2018 — Chrome Ore (Mineral Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe), Top Exporter of the Year 2018 — Ferrochrome (Mineral Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe), and Mineral Shipper of the Year 2020 — Beira Port (Cornelder, Mozambique).
