Chinwada takes over as TBCZ president amidst growing sector

THE Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ) has announced the election of Mr Clive Chinwada as the council’s president.

He takes over from Mr Wengayi Nhau who led the TBCZ for the past three years.

In a statement (TBCZ) said:

“Well-known hotelier Mr Clive Chinwada has been elected president of the TBCZ in succession to Mr Wengayi Nhau, who led the body for the past three years.

“Mr Chinwada is at present general manager of Holiday Inn Harare and has been with the African Sun group for more than 10 years.

“He is a past president of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe and was a TBCZ vice president before his election to the top office at the recent TBCZ annual general meeting.”

Three new vice presidents have also been elected, representing the three clusters of travel and tourism or related associations falling under the TBCZ umbrella.

“They are Mr Farai Chimba, immediate past president of HAZ (representing the accommodation cluster), Ms Kathy Nyaumwe of the Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents (activities cluster) and Ms Isabel Sachiti of the Board of Airline Representatives (the access cluster),” said TBCZ.

The tourism council is the trade body that provides a voice for the operators of travel and tourism, which is growing significantly as a major contributor to economic growth in the country and has its sights set on being the single most important sector by mid-century.

Mr Chinwada was quoted saying the role of TBCZ had also grown significantly in recent years, reflecting the recognition being given to the sector.

“The TBCZ is the voice of the operators across the whole sector and across the whole country and we ensure that this voice is heard on all relevant topics and issues, while at the same time we contribute to dialogue, discussion, debate and developmental planning regarding the present and future potential and role of travel and tourism,” he said.

“As we move steadily into the post-Covid era of renewed growth our focus is on ensuring that the operating environment in which travel and tourism businesses and professionals are based meets their needs and expectations and provides support, incentives and encouragement to do so.

“In this regard we are continuously engaged with all stakeholders in the sector to give our essential input and to positively make known our views and opinions, as well as make recommendations for improvement, enhancement and change leading to the common goal of travel and tourism success.”-ebsienssweekl
