Hwange, Kariba increase power generation
Zimbabwe power generation reached 1 628 megawatts on Monday with Hwange and Kariba Power Station stations sharing the output generated with significant improvements expected to ease the energy supply burden and boost production efficiency. According to the daily production figures from Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), Kariba Power Station produced 818MW while Hwange Thermal Power Station produced 810MW.

The three power stations Munyati, Bulawayo and Harare had no production.
The improved power generation has drastically reduced load-shedding across the country.
The Second Republic has committed a lot of resources towards increasing power generation hence the benefit now being enjoyed by industry and domestic consumers.
The US$1,4 billion Hwange Thermal Power Station Unit 7 and 8 expansion project which is nearing completion, is one of the Second Republic’s signature projects aimed at boosting power generation to support economic transformation in line with the National Development Strategy.
The continued improvement in power generation will help Zimbabwe reduce electricity imports and ease power cuts thereby allowing companies to increase production.
Before the expansion project, Hwange Power Station had an installed capacity of 920MW and the addition of 600MW from Units 7 and 8 will take the installed capacity to 1 520MW.
With Kariba South having already been expanded resulting in the addition of 300MW into the grid to take the installed capacity to 1 050MW, there will be adequate electricity to meet industrial and domestic demand.
