Baldmin clinches manufacturing deal in DRC
BALDMIN Projects has secured a deal to construct warehouses for Lulu KCC Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as the company extends its footprint in the Southern Africa region.
The company has been awarded two tenders worth over US$1, 2 million to assemble warehouses for the entity, which is a division of the Glencore Mines empire.
Baldmin which has offices and workshops in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Lubumbashi DRC will also supply consumables to the place of construction for six months under the first phase of the project.
Baldmin Holdings Managing Director, Engineer Costar Mangwende expressed delight at the growth of the company.
“We are elated that the organisation is growing from strength to strength after facing challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic which disrupted businesses all over the world.
“Our vision is to become the most preferred supplier of mining and engineering equipment, spares in the region. We want to grow our business locally and in the SADC region as we seek to bring back the much-needed foreign currency in the country hence creating more employment opportunities,” said Eng Mangwende .
Besides DRC, Baldmin Projects is currently constructing gold processing plants (leach plants) worth over US$850,000 for Urumaya a Bulawayo-based company that is part of LOC group of companies.
Baldmin which saves small-scale and commercial miners, is also a procurement house for the mining industry, with tailor-made solutions that suit various budgets.
The company has been involved in the business for a while now and some of its success stories include Metallon and Unki plant upgrades and the resuscitation of Sabi Gold Mine which operates as Chandiwana Mines.
Despite the growth trajectory Engineer Mangwende said the business continues to face funding problems.
“We are getting a lot of inquiries from the DRC but our biggest challenge is funding and most banks are hesitant to offer project funding even in South Africa but we are managing and working with our clients on how best to deliver the projects,” he said.
