CZI annual congress kicks off
THE Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) annual congress begins in Harare today with delegates seeking to align and reach consensus on the complementary business and policy imperatives towards achieving industrial and economic transformation.
The three-day event, among other objectives also seeks to establish the annual highlevel engagement and stock take between the Government and business regarding industry revival.
Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga is expected to deliver a keynote address at this year’s high-profile event while Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza as well as Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor, Dr John Mangudya, would be among the discussants.
In a pre-congress brief shared with Business Chronicle, CZI said their convention would also be focused on obtaining convergence with policy makers and framing the industry agenda around the national development ideals and targets.
“The congress also seeks consensus on the policy and business imperatives to achieve the vision for industry and in turn for industry to realise the transformation that will deliver economic performance, which will in turn make Vision 2030 a reality,” it said.
The Second Republic has set sights on attaining an upper middle-income economy society by 2030 and already the Government has established a roadmap towards the attainment of the envisaged milestone by 2030.
Such a road map includes the National Development Strategic 1 (NDS1), a five-year economic blue-print to anchor the economy from 2021-2025 after which the policy would be replaced by NDS2, another five-year development plan from 2026-2030.
It is in this context that at this year’s congress, CZI is seeking alignment to enable policy and institutional collaboration throughout the implementation of NDS 1 as well as providing high quality business content in the form of insights and analysis on topical issues for business leaders.
CZI said it was also inviting all new companies from the last five years or new products developed or introduced on the market in the last five years from all business sectors to an exhibition to run alongside the congress.
“The aim is to showcase the development and growth potential of business and industry in Zimbabwe as a way of demonstrating growth and innovation,” said the industry body.
“Innovation and incubation hubs from tertiary and other institutions are invited, companies that have developed new products or installed new technologies are invited as well as new companies that have entered the market in the last five years are invited.”-The Chronicle
