Telecoms trio win big at Zimpapers awards
Liquid Telecoms, NetOne and ZOL were the biggest winners at the inaugural Zimpapers’ Telecoms Awards that were held on Tuesday night.
NetOne was voted the overall best mobile network operator while ZOL was the overall best internet service provider and Liquid Telecoms obtained overall best internet access provider.
NetOne also bagged the most innovative mobile network, most reliable network operator mobile network service, and outstanding marketing campaign awards while ZOL received the most innovative ISP, customer service excellence internet service provider and most reliable internet service provider awards.
Other winners were Econet, which received the mobile network operator with the widest coverage and most improved mobile network operator awards while Telecel bagged the customer service excellence mobile network operator awards. TelOne won the widest coverage internet access provider and outstanding contributions to telecoms awards Data Centre Africa chairman Dr Dunny Derera, who was the guest of honour, commended Zimpapers for being innovative in coming up with the awards and challenged the group to take advantage of opportunities in the telecoms sector.
“Money comes to those with ideas and those without will keep crying that life is tough. We are living in an era where technology has affected almost every aspect of life. The role being played by the telecoms industry in society has also grown significantly.
“I advise Zimpapers to think outside the box in terms of this industry as technology is changing rapidly,” he said.
He challenged the group to continue provoking audiences with innovative programmes.
Zimpapers group chief executive Mr Pikirayi Deketeke said the awards were meant to celebrate the journey travelled by companies in the telecoms sector.
He unveiled Zimpapers’ newest offering, a telecoms focused magazine called ‘Insight into Telecoms’ that looks at technical issues, the business side of the sector and global trends among other things.
The awards ceremony was held under the theme, ‘Surviving Disruption through Innovation and Diversification’ and was attended by senior executives in the sector including Zol Zimbabwe CEO Denny Marandure and Rubiem CEO Dr Dennis Magaya.–herald
